class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Food Safety and Standards Authority\nhas decided to bifurcate the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging &amp;\nLabelling) Regulations 2011 into 2 parts that are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Food\nSafety and Standards (Packaging) Regulations 2018;<\/li><li>Food\nSafety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2019;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the FSS Authority in the exercise\nof the powers provided under clause (k) of sub section (2) of section 92 read\nwith section 23 of the FSS Act 2006 and in the suppression of the Food Safety\nand Standards (Packaging &amp; Labelling) Regulations 2011, notified the\nregulation named Food Safety and Standards (Labelling\nand Display) Regulations 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Applicability_of_the_FSS_Labelling_and_Display_Regulations_2020\"><\/span>Applicability of the FSS (Labelling\nand Display) Regulations 2020<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2020 shall come into force from the date of publication in the Official Gazette. Further, it shall be pertinent to note that it is compulsory for every FBO having <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/fssai-license\" class=\"text-primary\">FSSAI License<\/a><\/strong> needs to abide by the provisions of the said regulations after the expiry of one year, starting from the date of publication of the rules in the Official Gazette. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, again it shall\nbe taken into consideration that the provisions of Chapter 3 of the FSS (Labelling\nand Display) Regulations 2020 shall become applicable from 01.01.2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Key_Highlights_of_the_FSS_Labelling_and_Display_Regulations_2020\"><\/span>Key Highlights of the FSS (Labelling\nand Display) Regulations 2020<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Key Highlights of the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations 2020 are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Key-Highlights-of-the-FSS-Labelling-and-Display-Regulations-2020-heading.png\" alt=\"Key Highlights of the FSS\" class=\"wp-image-777\" width=\"461\" height=\"470\" srcset=\"https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Key-Highlights-of-the-FSS-Labelling-and-Display-Regulations-2020-heading.png 985w, https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Key-Highlights-of-the-FSS-Labelling-and-Display-Regulations-2020-heading-294x300.png 294w, https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Key-Highlights-of-the-FSS-Labelling-and-Display-Regulations-2020-heading-768x784.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Display_of_Information_on_Label\"><\/span>Display of Information on Label<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Any information, detail, or pictorial device printed, written, or any graphic matter displayed on the label must not conflict with the obligations and requirements of these regulations;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"List_of_Ingredients\"><\/span>List of Ingredients<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All the ingredients\ninvolved in a product must be contained under a specific title and heading,\nknown as \u201cList of Ingredients\u201d;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Name_must_Indicate_True_Nature_of_Food_Item\"><\/span>Name must Indicate\nTrue Nature of Food Item<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It shall be considerate to note that\nevery food package must contain only that name, which indicates the true nature\nof the food product and items involved, on the front of the package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, it may include a\n\u201cfanciful\u201d, \u201ccoined\u201d, \u201ctrade\u201d, or \u201cbrand name\u201d, but again the same will be\nsubject to the compliance of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards\n(Advertising and Claims) Regulations 2018;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Added_Water\"><\/span>Added Water<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>From now onwards, it\nshall be mandatory to display the \u201cAdded Water\u201d in the list of ingredients\nexcept in the case where water is a part of an ingredient, such as syrup,\nbrine, broth, etc., used in the food compound and so acknowledged in the list\nof ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Veg_Logo\"><\/span>Veg Logo<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Every food package containing vegetarian ingredients, including Processing Aids of Plant Origin or Food Additives, shall bear a declaration to this effect in the form of a symbol and colour code. Further, the said symbol must be displayed on the package with the contrast background on the principal display panel. Also, the same should be in close proximity to the brand name of the product;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Applicability_of_Legal_Metrology_Provisions\"><\/span>Applicability of\nLegal Metrology Provisions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All the details, such\nas Consumer Care Details, Retail Sale Price, and Net Quantity must be declared\nin the manner specified under the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act 2009\nand the rules made thereunder;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Date_of_Manufacture_and_Expiry_Date\"><\/span>Date of\nManufacture and Expiry Date<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It shall be compulsory\nfor every FBO to prominently display the Manufacturing and Expiry Date on the\nlabel. However, the term \u201cBest Before\u201d may be used as a piece of additional or\noptional information.
