<strong><em>food\nproducts <\/em><\/strong>produced as per the <strong><em>standards prescribed<\/em><\/strong> for the <strong><em>production\nof organic food <\/em><\/strong>in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further, the term \u201c<strong><em>Organic Food Business<\/em><\/strong>\u201d\ndenotes a <strong><em>business<\/em><\/strong> that is involved in <strong><em>manufacturing<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>selling<\/em><\/strong>,\n<strong><em>purchasing<\/em><\/strong>,\nand <strong><em>labeling<\/em><\/strong>\nof the Organic Food items in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, it shall be relevant to note that <strong><em>the\nOrganic Food items<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Irradiated Food<\/em><\/strong>, <strong><em>Genetically\nModified Articles<\/em><\/strong>, and <strong><em>Novel Food<\/em><\/strong> will not be used in the\nfollowing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Special Dietary\nUses;<\/li><li>Functional Food;<\/li><li>Nutraceuticals;<\/li><li>Health\nSupplements;<\/li><li>Proprietary\nFood;<\/li><li>And any other\nitem as specified by the Central Government;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Regulatory_Authorities_for_the_Organic_Food_Business\"><\/span>Regulatory Authorities for the Organic Food Business<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em><strong>Regulatory Authorities<\/strong><\/em> involved in the <strong><em>Process of Granting License<\/em><\/strong> to Start an Organic responsible for keeping a check on the Organic Businesses operating in India. It also ensures that every organic business must obtain certification from the systems as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Participatory\nGuarantee System (PGS); and<\/li><li>National Program\nfor Organic Production (NPOP);<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Participatory_Guarantee_Scheme\"><\/span>Participatory\nGuarantee Scheme<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em><strong>Participatory Guarantee Scheme<\/strong><\/em> or <em><strong>PGS<\/strong><\/em> is a system provided by the MoAFW (<strong><em>Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare<\/em><\/strong>). It is an internationally recognised <strong><em>OQA<\/em><\/strong> (Organic Quality Assurance), such as the <strong><em>ISO 9000<\/em><\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PGS is <strong><em>implemented<\/em><\/strong> and <em><strong>controlled <\/strong><\/em>by the organic farmers or producers. Under this, the farmers <strong><em>actively participate<\/em><\/strong> with the customers in a process, which is based on absolute trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, PGS or Participatory Guarantee Scheme is\na \u201c<strong><em>Certification\nScheme<\/em><\/strong>\u201d for Organic Foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"National_Program_for_Organic_Production\"><\/span>National Program\nfor Organic Production<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em><strong>National Program for Organic Production<\/strong><\/em> or <em><strong>NPOP<\/strong><\/em> is a <em><strong>certification scheme <\/strong><\/em>provided by the MoCI (<strong><em>Ministry of Commerce and Industry<\/em><\/strong>).
