This Import Exchange License can be issued by the Director General\nof Foreign Trade or DGFT. IEC is a 10-digit code having validity for lifetime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further,\nit can be understood that any importer merchant cannot import their goods for\nbusiness without having a proper Import Exchange Code. Similarly, any merchant\nwho is related to export business cannot run their business or avail any kind\nof benefits for the export scheme from the Director General of Foreign Trade\nwithout the import exchange code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, this <strong><a class=\"text-primary\" href=\"https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/iec-registration\">IEC Registration<\/a><\/strong> has been made mandatory by the Foreign Trade policy issued by the Government of India. It is stated under laws that no commercial export or import can take place without having a valid IEC code. Further, doing export or import without the IEC code is deemed to be illegal in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Features_of_Import_Exchange_Code\"><\/span>Features of Import Exchange Code<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Below\nare some of the basic features related to the Import Exchange Code in India:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>IEC\ncode is termed to be nothing but just the PAN Card number registered with the\ndepartment of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).<\/li><li>This\nprocess of getting one&#8217;s PAN Card number registered under DGFT is known as IEC\ncode registration.<\/li><li>However,\na separate number for registration was issued for IEC code earlier, but later\non, the government in the year 2017 amended the policies and thus making PAN as\nthe universal IEC code, once the registration is done with DGFT.<\/li><li>Import\nExchange Code once allotted to a merchant is valid for lifetime.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exemptions_under_IEC_Registration\"><\/span>Exemptions under IEC Registration<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There are various situations or circumstances when IEC registration code is not required for the purpose of either export or import outside India. However, the\nvalidity of such IEC code is till the business is in function. Partnership Firm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of a partnership firm, following are the set of documents required for IEC registration process in India:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Copy of photograph\u2019s of each partners.<\/li><li>Copy of PAN Card<\/li><li>Valid ID proof of the Managing Partner of a Partnership Firm.<\/li><li>Copies of Partnership Deed<\/li><li>Copy of latest electricity bill.<\/li><li>Cancelled Cheque having the name as well as the account number of the entity.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Private_Limited_Company_or_LLP\"><\/span>3. Society or Trust<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of a society or of a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/swaritadvisors.com\/trust-registration\" class=\"text-primary\">trust registration<\/a><\/strong>, following are the set of documents required for the process of IEC registration:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Digital Photographs of the Chief Executive of the society or of Trust.<\/li><li>Copy of PAN Cards<\/li><li>Copy of a valid ID proof of Trustee.<\/li><li>Copy of the latest electricity bill.<\/li><li>Cancelled Cheque having the name of either of the Registered Society or of the Trust along with the account number.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Hindu_Undivided_Family_HUF\"><\/span>5. Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of a <strong>Hindu Undivided Family<\/strong><sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.incometaxindia.gov.in\/pages\/i-am\/huf.aspx\" class=\"text-primary\"><strong><em>[1]<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/sup> or Joint Family, following are the set of documents required for the process of IEC registration:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Digital photographs of the Karta of the Hindu undivided Family.<\/li><li>Copy of Karta\u2019s PAN Card.<\/li><li>Copy of valid ID proof such as Passport, Voter ID, Driving License or a UID of the Karta of the family.<\/li><li>Copy of sale deed, if in case the business is self-owned.<\/li><li>Copy of Rent Agreement if in case the business is on rent.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Procedure_for_Import_Export_Exchange_Code_Registration\"><\/span>Procedure for Import Export Exchange Code Registration<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The only authority to issue IEC to any merchants in India is DGFT or Director General of Foreign Trade.
