Eventually, after a lengthy discussion, on Wednesday, 31<\/strong>st<\/strong><\/sup> July 2019<\/strong>, the Rajya Sabha passed the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill<\/strong> to tighten the road traffic regulations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result was declared on the basis of a voice vote<\/strong>. There were 108 votes<\/strong> in favour whereas 13 votes were in against<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sole reason for passing the bill was to amend the provisions of the earlier act, namely- Motor Vehicles Act, 1988<\/strong> for the betterment of citizens<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of the increasing accidents and carelessness of people driving<\/strong> on roads, rules have become more stringent. The penalties for different offences<\/strong> regarding the traffic and driving<\/strong> have been increased. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
