The Government of India has introduced the NITI Aayog to create and promote a strong partnership between Non- Government Organizations (NGOs)/Voluntary Organizations (VOs) and the Indian Government. NITI Aayog has introduced an online portal called NGO Darpan. This portal allows NGOs or VOs to register centrally and facilitates creating a source of information about NGOs or VOs, State-wise or Sector-wise. Indian Government needs to maintain an online database of all the registration process, and all NGOs/VOs needs to register under NITI Aayog for receiving grants under various Government’s schemes. In this blog, we discuss the NITI Aayog NGO Registration in India.

The full form of NITI Aayog is National Institution for Transforming India Aayog, and it comes into existence in 2015 by following the look Commission of India. NITI Aayog. Departments or Ministries executing schemes through Non-Government Organizations are also required to develop their portals and mix the same with NGO-Darpan so that unified information flow may be simplified about funding to Non-Government Organizations and project implementation.

What are the Benefits of NITI Aayog NGO Registration?

As we already discussed above that the primary aim of the Government of India is to maintain the databases of societies/trusts/organizations that are working for society’s welfare and asking for the fund to practice their activities. Following are some benefits of NITI Aayog NGO registration in India:

  • For FCRA Registration, a NITI Aayog unique ID is required, but currently, it is optional.
  • It raises the credibility of Trust/Society/NGO, which helps them get a general public donation.
  • It is compulsory to obtain NITI Aayog NGO Registration to avail of various schemes offered by the Government of India.
  • The databases of all the presently active and blacklisted Non-Government Organizations are maintained with the help of the NGO Darpan Portal.
  • With the NGO Darpan portal, you can directly apply for the grant offered by the Indian Government, which you want to avail.

Vital Documents Required for NITI Aayog NGO Registration

Following is the list of all the essential documents required at the time of  NITI Aayog NGO Registration in India:

  • Submit a duly certified copy of the Trust Deed.
  • Submit a copy of the MOA (Memorandum of Association) of the company;
  • Submit a copy of the AOA (Articles of Association) of the company.
  • Submit a copy of CoR (Certificate of Registration) of Society.
  • Submit a certified copy of the Memorandum and byelaws.
  • PAN Card of NGO.
  • FCRA Details.
  • Valid email ID and mobile number for OTP (One Time Password).
  • Last five years details of all source of funds from government bodies.
  • Submit Aadhar Card and PAN Card of all the Trustees or members.
  • Details of Chairman of Organization and Chief Functionary.

Steps for NITI Aayog NGO Registration in India

To complete the NITI Aayog NGO Registration, you need to follow the steps as mentioned below:

  • You have to visit the online website of NGO Darpan.
  • Once you visit the home page of the website, then you have to click on Login or Register link and click on the “Sign Up” button.
  • Provide the full name of the NGO or VO, mobile number, and email id of the contact person. Put security code and submit the request, and after that, you have to provide PAN details of NGO or VO.
  • Once you submit all the details, you will receive an OTP on your given email id and mobile number. After the verification of OTP, now generate a password for further login purpose.
  • After generating a password, come to the home page of the website and use the “Sign In” option for login. For that, you need to enter your login id and password.
  • Once you logged in, you will find PAN Number and Name of Non-Government Organization or Voluntary Organization as pre-filed.
  • Now you have to provide the following details to proceed further.
  • Detailed address of an NGO.
  • NGO or VO registration authority.
  • Provide Registration Number and upload the copy of RC for verification.
  • Name of the Act and Registration date under this Act.
  • Provide details of all other registration, if registered like GST Registration, FCRA Registration, etc.
  • Now you have to provide a minimum of three member’s details of Founder Members or Executive Committee or Office Bearers as on date of application.
  • After that, you must provide details of all sources of funds received from Government Bodies in the last five years.
  • Provide details of the main person, who can be contacted in case of any question.
  • Now you have to provide details regarding NGO or VO Core area of working with state details. This is an essential part because you will receive a grant from the departments of the Government according to their working area.
  • Once you provide all the details mentioned above, your profile is 100% complete, and then you can submit the application for NITI Aayog NGO Registration.
  • After submitting the application, your file is sent for processing to the respective officer.
  • Once you submit the application and all the vital documents, the officer will approve your application or ask for additional documents if required.
  • Once your application is approved, you will be allotted a Unique ID which will be used in future for all communication purpose with Government.

Note: You cannot apply for NITI Aayog NGO Registration as an individual. You need a valid PAN Card of Trust/Society/NGO. A unique identification will be provided to the Non-Government Organizations. They have to mention a unique Id while applying for the grant from the ministry. After getting NITI Aayog NGO Registration and receiving any grant from the ministry, it is compulsory to maintain accounts and provide that information to the ministry after the financial year-end. If your documents are acceptable and meet all the registration requirements, it will take around 3 to 5 days to get the application approved. Once your application for registration is approved, you will get a unique id that will be used further.

From above, it is cleared that all the NGOs and Voluntary Organizations in India must get registered under NITI Aayog. The Non-Government Organization has to register on the NGO Darpan website of GOI to get a unique id before applying for taking donations under different government schemes.
