7 Important Things to Know about FSSAI License Renewal Process
The FSSAI registration aka food license is the first and foremost requirement if you’re into any form of the food business. However, apart from mandatory FSSAI registration, the FBOs have to fulfil another regular compliance known as FSSAI renewal. The FSSAI license has to be immediately renewed upon expiry of its validity.
FSSAI is an acronym for the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India. It is the chief food business regulator, independently instituted by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It is the topmost authoritative body responsible for issuing the FSSAI registration or license.
It is important to note that FSSAI Renewal is equally essential as issuing of the FSSAI Registration. Today, we will understand with the help of some FAQs about the importance of renewing the FSSAI Registration/ license.
1- Why is it important to get FSSAI license Renewal?
A Food business operator should never take a chance to miss the FSSAI Renewal.
Time-to-time Renewal of the FSSAI Registration or License is mandatory without and shall be done without any delay to avoid heavy penalty.
In case the FBO has missed applying for the FSSAI Renewal till the due date, his FSSAI license shall be considered as invalid. In such a situation the food business operator shall not be allowed to continue his food business activities.
Hence, it is advisable to timely get the renewal of Food License.
2- How much is the validity of the FSSAI registration/license?
The validity of the FSSAI License is for a limited period which is generally 1 to 5 years. The applicant is free to opt for the validity of his FSSAI registration/ License according to his/her business requirements.
In any case, the FBO has to immediately apply for the FSSAI Renewal before the validity expires.
3- When to apply for the FSSAI license renewal?
The FSSAI renewal has to be applied 120 days (i.e., 4 months) prior to the expiry of the validity of the license.
4- How much is the late fee in case of FSSAI renewal?
The late fee amount chargeable for late FSSAI Renewal is ₹100/- per day beginning from the date of expiry of the validity of the FSSAI Registration or License.
5- What is the process for FSSAI license renewal?
Here is the step by step procedure for FSSAI renewal:
- Firstly, go to FLRS portal on your system.
- Login FLRS portal with your Username & password.
- Select the tab: “Apply for Renewal for License/Registration”.
- A list will pop-up on the screen. Just select the relevant link and click:- “Proceed”.
- A confirmation message will now pop-up on the screen like: “Are you sure you want to apply for renewal of the license”. Just click the “OK” button to proceed.
- Now, upload all the required forms along with the necessary documents as per the requirements of the portal.
- After uploading and reviewing all the forms and documents, now click the “Submit” button.
- You will now get an Application Reference Number (ARN).
- Save this ARN and use it to track the status of the FSSAI license renewal process.
6- Communication with FSSAI department
An e-mail will be sent to the applicant by the FSSAI department once the FSSAI License is renewed.
Notes: In case any modification or change is needed in FSSAI license, the applicant has to contact the FSSAI designated officer. The name & contact of the designated officer will be given on the application status when you will track it with ARN.
If the applicant has not yet completed the FSSAI renewal process, by clicking the OK button on the confirmation message, it will be taken as an incomplete application. In such a case, the applicant has to apply for the Online FSSAI License Renewal Process right from the start.
7- What are the documents required for FSSAI renewal?
Here are the important documents required for FSSAI license renewal:
Form A: This application form has to be filed in case the turnover of the FBO is below 12 lakhs.
Form B: This application form has to be filed in the case in case the turnover of the FBO is from 12 lakhs to 2 crores.
Along with the FSSAI License Renewal form you need to attest the following documents:
- Self-declaration copy.
- FSSAI license fee.
- A photo identity proof that may be any of the following.
- Aadhar card.
- Driving license.
- Voter ID
These are the crucial things to keep in mind while applying for the FSSAI license renewal. Once the renewal application has been filed successfully, the applicant can kick-start his operations immediately. There is no need to wait for further government approval for this.
After the FSSAI License Renewal communication with the department, the FBO will undergo an inspection process by the FSSAI authority. Physical inspection will be done to ensure that the furnished documentation is correct and the FBO fulfils all the criteria. On satisfactory inspection, the applicant FBO shall receive a green signal there and then, and the trader may smoothly continue with his business activity.
